BOWSER AND FUEL NEWS:
INFOMATION WHICH MAY AFFECT YOU

What are the rules about driving a water bowser on the road?

If you are going to drive a water bowser on the road, you first need to ensure that it is highway legal. This will be identified in either the product's name or description. If you can’t see if the water bowser is highway legal, you will need to contact the manufacturer to ensure it is highway legal.

As we mentioned further up in this piece, both the driver’s licence and the towing abilities of the vehicle must also meet the legal requirements for the bowser.

The driver will also need to check their eligibility based on their driving licence:
Licences issued from 1 January 1997

If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 January 1997, you can:

drive a car or van up to 3,500kg maximum authorised mass (MAM) towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM.
tow a trailer over 750kg MAM if the combined MAM of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3,500kg.

Licences issued before 1 January 1997

You are allowed to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8,250kg MAM.

View your driving licence information to check.
